Christopher Stubbs left school at 15, he worked in engineering and textiles, he later worked as a psychiatric nurse before studying fine art at Huddersfield College of Art in the early seventies. He was taught the importance of good draughtsmanship under William Cowper who was an admirer of the great masters, notably Rembrandt, Velázquez and Caravaggio. Cowper taught the importance of observation. 

Finally studying printmaking at Leeds Polytechnic under Geoff Teasdale, Norman Webster and Brian Holmes, he learnt the techniques of lithography and etching becoming influenced by many artists notably Henri Matisse, Picasso, Gillian Ayres, Roger Hilton, Albert Irvin, Frank Auerbach and Willem de Kooning.

Over the course of his career he has produced artworks for J P Morgan, Royal Mail,

Provident Finance, Securicor, British Steel, ICI, and many more.

He has been a Director of his own design company for over 30 years along with his wife Joy.
